Pruning Tools (Alligator in Red)
- The roofing material will be "Colorbond" in some sort of green.
- There will be two skylights, one over the hall, one over the kitchen
- There will be gutters above the front steps and all along the rear of the house
- The rear gutter will be angled to send all water to the south end for future capture by a water tank
- The roofing will include replacement of the corrugated fibro material over the front of the verandah
- Paul will paint the rafters before laying down the roofing over the verandah
- The small shed to the SW of the house will be re-roofed in Colorbond, with no gutters
- The barge boards (ie boards running just below the tiles at the ends of the house) will be covered by colorbond material
- The clay tiles have no commercial value because the labor required to reuse them is too high. They will be removed in a skip (ie dumpster) and ground up for recycling.
Brenda at Work
Paul told me that it was quite feasible to build a room in the attic space the length of the house but I decided that I didn't need the space bad enough to warrant the cost, loss of space below for stairs, and covering up the house wiring and ducting in the attic (see below).
I asked about heating and Paul told me that a reverse cycle air conditioning system with ducting to all of the rooms can be done at any time, and not necessarily when the new roof is installed. The unit can be sited on the west side of the roof, away from street view.
Paul will send me a quotation for the roof work during the coming week, and he would expect to begin the work in about 2 weeks.
We both see it as a trial. If things go well then we will proceed with the next task in the project.
Burn Site at End of Day
He also told me that installing cylinder gas is no big drama for a gas plumber, so I will consider this an option for the kitchen stove.
During the rest of the time I did a lot of burning while Brenda did much pruning around the waterfall area. She (and I) made good use of her "Alligator" ultra safe chain saw for cutting branches. I also made good use of my Makita electric chain saw,
Lucky you Robert having Brenda and 2 others to help you out. Glad your house is being fixed. Maybe Brenda will like living there too??? Chris
