Day 6

At the end of today, Day 6, the north wall had been completed and the old timber weatherboard cladding on the south wall had been removed.
New Cowlings, Hidden Plumbing, Vent in Place

South Wall Stripped for Re Cladding
North Side Finished
The photo of the north wall at the rear of the house shows some of the improvements that I am particularly pleased about.  The amateurish and deteriorated cowlings over the exhaust fans have been replace with made-to-order ones made of galvanized sheeting that have been fitted to perfection.  The copper plumbing is now inside of the wall, and the water tap (to be fitted) will come out of the wall.  The ugly concrete mound that was the base of the sewer line vent has been replaced by a flush fitted (no pun intended) plastic one which I will surround with brick paving.  The vent pipe has been fitted after more than a year of lying on the ground leaving an open hole to the sewer line.

Within the next few days I must select the color of the house so that there is no delay in the painting.

A small time capsule of tools was found in a north wall cavity: two paint scrapers and on Stanley knife.  They would have been entombed in 1978 or 1979 and would have belonged to either me or George Trusty from next door.  I was pleased to see that the paint scrapers had been made in the USA.  There were no markings on the Stanley knife, but it was undoubtedly made in ABC (Anywhere But China), given that this was before the rise of China as the commodity manufacturer for the world.  Supporting evidence is that the blade of the Stanley knife is still sharp after all of these years in spite of superficial rust.
