Architraving Done

Another big step in the refurbishing project has been completed.
Paul at Work

Paul showed me how to make those plugs

Window sill after sending down plugs

Paul spent 4.5 days installing all of the architraving around the doors and windows.  It turned out to be a bigger job than we had expected.  We obtained most of the wood by recovering leftover Jarrah from the earlier stages of the refurbishment and this required a lot of rip sawing and router work.  For the heavier timber required for the window sills I dragged out a heavy plank that had laid out in the weather for about 30 years.  Paul milled the wood and 5 mm below the surface was good red healthy looking timber.  Jarrah is an amazing wood.  The little amount of wood that we were forced to purchase was Meranti, a rain forest wood that isn't nearly as strong and weather resistant as Jarrah, but good enough for what we had in mind.

The Result

Yep, it all needs filling and painting

The result took the appearance of the house to another level.  After my return in late September from the tour to the SE of Australia I'll begin the laborious process of filling in the wood, sanding it, then priming and painting it.
