Painting Windows

For the last week I have been painting exterior window and door frames.

I purchased the paint from "The Paint Place" in Midland because I was seeking good advice along with the paint.

The big question was whether to use oil base or water base paint.  The advice was to use oil an oil base primer to provide a barrier between the oil and acids of the wood and the top coats.  For the top coats Venessa advised me that on a particular brand of water base enamel would out last an oil base enamel.

The primer I am using "Newlook" multipurpose primer, with the mixing specifications: Tinter 1L, B 15, C 16, F 4 3/4.

For the top coats I am using Wattyl's "Aquatrim", color "Mud-Dell", mixing specifications: Light, Tinter 4L, B 2Y 24, C 2Y 32, F 38.

The Aquatrim behaves differently from ordinary water base paint.  It dries much faster, does not like to be painted onto wood heated by sunlight, and drips must be removed with mentholated spirits (alcohol) rather than water.

I have completed work on the front windows and today I will finished the rear ones.  Next week I'll begin work on the dining room window, which will need careful preparation of the scaffolding.
