For years my intention has been to use the back porch as an extension of the kitchen. There I have the second refrigerator (necessary because the kitchen can accommodate only a small one) and have kept little-used implements (e.g. potato masher, egg beater, blender, long knoves) in a large plastic container on the floor. I've needed some sort of wooden cupboard to accommodate overflow from the kitchen.
Last week Brenda alerted me to some promising items of furniture at what has become our favourite op shop, the one attached to the government disabled services in Shenton Park. Stephen has appropriately dubbed it "Treasure Island."

The three of us visited the place and I settled on the piece shown in the enclosed photo. I was attracted to it because it is all-wood and well constructed. I was particularly drawn (no pun intended) to the drawers which have dove tailed joints and have a very smooth action.
Stephen said that the piece was a stand for an old-technology CRT television. The recorder would have been housed in the upper shelf and the VCR cassettes, manuals, and other paraphernalia would have been stored in the drawers below. There is a convenient hole for the back through which I have passed and electrical cord to power the bread maker, which I will use in situ after loading up the ingredients in the kitchen.
When I picked it up I learned that the unit is on hefty castors, which makes it very easy to move around.
... Oh yea, the cost was a princely $30.00
The stainless steel container on the cupboard at the right contains my supply of olive oil.
