Ceiling and Wall Work Started, Flat Packs Arrived

New kitchen cabinetry arriving in pallet

Wider doorway into kitchen

Paul spent the first part of the morning purchasing the material for the days' work and he arrived at about 10 AM.  We discussed the problem of removing the 2x4" rough timber in the new doorway that had been the base of that section of the wall to be replaced with flooring and in the end I decided to remove more of the wall to the next sub floor support.  Almost by accident we wound up with a large opening that transformed the feel of the room  and agreed that it would be worthwhile to retain that wide doorway if possible.  We looked at the kitchen plans and saw that we could get a good fit by retaining the lower cabinets and counter top as planned and removing the two end cupboards above.  This would leave us with a "breakfast bar" to match the one on the other side next to the dining room.  We cut out the 2x4 timber along the new doorway and Paul will find two planks of 20 mm thick jarrah that we can mill to fit in the doorway.

Paul then started on the ceiling by cutting out the oval molding for the neon light.  Next he fastened some strips of timber along the length of the ceiling, right over the existing material, and put dabs of adhesive material along the wood. I then helped him lift the new gyprock sheets up where he screwed them into the strips of wood.  Eventually it will be mainly the adhesive that will hold the ceiling up.  After that we placed one sheet of gyprock on the upper side of the wall above the main counter, screwed directly onto the old wall material

We spent the last hour of the day transferring into the house the flat packs of the kitchen cabinets that had arrived during the day.

Tomorrow Paul will move the plumbing and drain then we will put up the rest of the kitchen wall sheets.
