Kitchen Phase

The kitchen cabinet flat packs will be delivered to the house on Monday.

Paul said that he will be dedicated to my house project all of next week (though he forgot to mention New Years Day) and he will arrive on Monday morning to begin work on preparing the kitchen room.  Peter will not be available so I will act as his "offsider" (assistant) on Monday and possibly other days.  I don't mind the arrangement because it will allow me to keep close touch with the renovation project as sell as saving me some money.

Paul left me with some homework for the weekend, and yesterday I prepared the new kitchen doorway.  My initial plan was to make the new doorway as wide as the current one but that would require the moving of a stud, so I might make the doorway of smaller though standard width.

The wall material is a plasterboard with horse hair as a binder.  It may be old fashioned and very heavy, but has proven to be excellent for the role: solid with sound dampening.  I made the cuts by drilling holes close to each other along the marked lines using a masonry bit,  then cutting across the holes using an old wood chisel.  All of the old ceiling and wall surfaces will be covered by the new ones.
