Another Milestone

Paul and I hit it pretty hard on Sunday.

Paul spent most of the day sanding  the flushing work that he had done on the walls.  Once that was done he began to install the toilet, which proved to be much more difficult that either of us had anticipated.  We finished working well after dark, at about 8 PM, with still more work to be done on the toilet.

He returned on Monday and put in another 2 hours completing the toilet installation and making the shower installation permanent by using thin (6G) and extremely long (65 mm) screws that he had brought with him, and just as well because the previous day I visited four businesses in Midland in a vain attempt to find the screws. Stainless steel screws were preferable but the galvanized screws that Paul used will be adequate.

The toilet installation is good. The bowl rests on a beading of epoxy, is well leveled, backed firmly against the wall, and parallel with the lines of the floor tiles.  The flushing action of what Caroma calls the "cleanflush" design where the water enters the bowl from the back, swirls along channels on the sides, does an even flush of the sides works outstandingly well.  The design is supposed to be much more hygienic that the standard flush design of water entering from under a hard to see and reach rim.  The toilet lid is of that slow self-closing type.  I preferred a standard manual lid but that would have required a special order. I'll probably get used to the lid.

Yesterday afternoon I rolled the undercoat onto the ceiling and walls.  Today I hope to put on the first topcoats: white on ceiling, a very light pastel on the walls.

At last, no more bucket baths and a toilet in the house!
