Lawn Mowers Ready

I visited the house yesterday for several hours.  My primary objective was to lower the two lawn mowers from the garage rafters and prepare them for use.

The weeds on the property are much too high because the tenants unwisely put off the mowing.  It is their responsibility to ensure that the mowing is done, and I expect their contractor to do a rough job.  My plan is to then finish the job with my mowers and whipper snipper (weed eater).

Long-time friend an neighbour Reg Kelly came came by and while he was home changing clothes to give me a hand I lowered the 2-stroke mower using ropes.  Reg then helped me to lower the 4-stroke mower.  We then made a couple of trips to the petrol station to purchase motor and 2-stroke oil and changed the crank case oil of the 4-stroke mower, got it running, then turned our attention to the 2-stroke mower and soon had it running.

We then had a go at finding a key to the house.  (The tenants left only 1 key which Emeline the property manager must keep until the handover on Tuesday.)  I emptied a container of keys on a bench and Reg tried key after key until we found one that worked.  With access to the house we were able to walk through it and discuss the various issues.

A car pulled up while Reg and I werewere discussing the verandah and out came somebody whom I had never expected to see again.  It was Kim with her daughter Kempsey.  Kim had been living in Esperance and came to Perth in 2008 to say goodbye to everyone before her departure for Queensland.  She didn't know about my sailing adventure and had tried telephoning me during my circumnavigation with no success.  Anyway, she had been back in Esperance all along  and during a 2-day visit to Perth had asked Kempsey to drive by just as I happened to be there.

Attached are a few photos of the property.  I built the verandah and dining room myself with the help of friends in the late 70's.

  1. I love that varandah you built back in the 70s. Looks great. Lucky you had a friend to help with the mowing. Chris
