I began by mowing the disused vegetable patch, the only flat section of the property. Then I began walking all over the property pulling out wood and piling it up. By the end of the day I had two stacks: one for the fire and the other for feeding the fire. I figure that it will take two more days of work to complete the task. Before I burn I will need (1) good weather conditions and (2) a burning permit which I can obtain from the Darlington Bush Fire Brigade on Saturday morning.
During a break I checked out the house using a plumb bob and spirit level. The corners of the house appeared to be vertical. The floors of the two bedrooms with the wall cracking problem are perfectly level and the window frames are vertical, which suggests no serious settlement of the foundation.
Reg visited late in the afternoon and we discussed the issue. We noted that the wall cracks are along the frame studs supporting the windows and are beginning to think that the problem may be superficial, brought on by the digging of the ditch for the new septic system along that side of the house.
I am including photos of the wall cracks.
Oh no. Lots of wall cracks. How are you fixing them. Painting? Changing wood? Chris
