| Concrete Drains To Be Removed |
The foreman was not too happy with the squared off turn into the carport as shown in the diagram, which I had produced as a rough description of the job. He wanted to make a gentle turn into the carport and move the edge leading up to it more to the right. However, he was concerned that this would require the laying of more bricks that had been planned and quoted for. I told him that I saw the official quotation as a starting point only. I had expected unforeseen issues as the job developed and was prepared for it. So I was ver clear in advising him to do the job as he thought best and I would worry about the money. I have no hesitation in giving the team that license because they are doing a great job and take obvious pride in their work.
One of the unforeseen issues was the existence of two heavy concrete drains at the crossover to Beenong Road. I dug out the end of one of the drains and confirmed to Aaron that these were ducts left over from the days when Beenong Road had an open ditch for a drain and I entered the property over these drains, which formed a bridge over the passing water. The drains were dug out and I asked that they be removed from my property, with my usual stipulation that I could cover any extra costs.
Today (Thursday) they hope to complete the brick paving down to Beenong Road, with some work along the edges and drain next to the garage to be done. (A smaller metal grille for the side drain will replace the older one, and the edges of the concrete water sump which I built in the 1980's will be raised.) They also hope to prep the path along the side of the house for paving.
Perhaps tomorrow they will begin work on the branch of the driveway leading up to the verandah undercroft where I park the Barina. I showed the foreman the 40mm plastic conduit that will be embedded under that section of the driveway, as well as the connectors and end pieces that he will require. I am glad that I mention this because he had not been aware of it
