One More Day to Go

The driveway project is almost completed, but not quite.

The bricks have all been laid, the drain next to the garage has been cemented in, and a new section of roadside curbing at the base of my driveway has been poured.  Also, most of the rubbish (e.g. partial bricks, old bitumen) has been removed and carted away.  However, there is much "haunching" (i.e the cement support along the borders of the driveway) remaining.  Also, several sections of the driveway must have white sand swept between the brcks.

Left Edge to be Moved

Late in the afternoon I walked around the job and picked up a problem that I should have noticed much earlier.  I had told Aaron that the section of the driveway leading to the verandah undercroft was a bit narrow, making it difficult for me to back the Barina without running off the edge.  His solution was to move the left edge of that driveway to the outside of the stone pillar, increasing the width of the section by close to a meter.

Unfortunately Aaron didn't pass the message to Kehu, the foreman, who allowed the existing curb to define the driveway.    By the time I picked up the error all of the bricks had been laid and it was going to be a bit of a pain to rectify the problem.  I had given Kehu a plan of the job two days earlier and it clearly showed the extension and resulting overall width of that section of the driveway.  Kehu telephone Aaron who confirmed the plan and said that he had forgotten to mention it because he had been so busy.  I can understand that, and I wish that I had been more alert and saved us all the trouble of rectifying the problem.

Kehu told me that he and somebody else will return the day after tomorrow to fix the problem and complete the job.
