Big Bushfire

I reported a few days ago that the temperature was expected to reach 44C (111F) on Saturday, and in fact it reached an official 43.3C, which meant that the temperature in the hills area would have reached at least 45C.

The next day a hot and intense bush fire flared in the Stoneville-Parkerville-Mt Helena area a few kilometers up the highway from Darlington.  The last count is 52 homes destroyed with many others damaged.  Fortunately the only loss of life was one 62-year-old man who had a heart attack while on his roof defending his house (which was not burned).

FESA (Fire Emergency Services Authority) jumped on it right away with volunteer fire fighters, water bombers, and helicopters and did a heroic job.  It is estimated that without their quick action 450 houses would have been lost.

It's a jungle out here in the wilds of Western Australia.
