More Progress

The kitchen wall cabinets were mounted on the wall when I arrived at the house this morning.  I then visited the front bedroom and saw that Paul and Peter had made a start on the gyprock paneling.

I skipped my usual cup of coffee and immediately began putting on the second coat of ceiling paint in the kitchen because I wanted that job finished before Paul arrived.  Two hours later I stood back and looked at the result and concluded that 2 coats were enough given that I had used almost 4 liters of top quality paint and the color looked solid.

Paul had not yet arrived so I headed down to Midland and began the process of installation of the stone counter top and back splash.  In a few days I will get a call from the company and we will arrange a visit to specify the final design and measurements.  Soon after that I will receive their quotation for the work.

After that I visited the Good Guys and purchased an extractor (Beaumatic model GEH6018 60 cm slideout rangehood) for $160.

Paul was working on the front room when I got back to the house and we spent the rest of the afternoon putting up gyprock.  The ceiling sections were long, heavy, and liable to cracking if handled incorrectly.  We had to hold each sheet in position and somehow Paul had to put in enough screws to hold the sheet in place.  We worked from ladders at each end of the sheets and I carefully did exactly what he said.  The effort went well and the ceiling is now 60 cm lower than before, at a height of 2.7 meters or about 8' 11".

Paul will pop in briefly in the morning to sand off some remedial work on the ceiling and to fit the new range hood extractor.  After that I won't expect to see him until Monday.  I'll bide my time touching up the kitchen ceiling and beginning work on the painting of the veranda posts and rails.
